Welcome to Quilts and Beyond — a space where fabric, color, and stitching come together as art.
I’m Madhura Bhide, the maker behind Quilts and Beyond, creating handmade quilts, quilted wall hangings, textile art, and original quilt patterns from my studio in India.
My work blends traditional quilting techniques with a contemporary artistic approach, resulting in pieces that are both functional and expressive. While quilting has deep roots in comfort and craftsmanship, I’m especially drawn to its artistic possibilities — the way fabric, thread, texture, and composition can tell a story beyond the quilt itself.
I create a wide range of work, from one-of-a-kind art quilts and wall hangings to table runners, bed quilts, small textile art pieces, patchwork bags, and digital quilt patterns. Some pieces are made to be used and loved every day, while others are designed as collectible textile artworks for display.
Nature is a constant source of inspiration in my work. I am especially drawn to:
- floral forms
- seascapes and landscapes
- botanical textures
- movement in water and sky
- contemporary color stories
- modern piecing with rich surface detail
Many of my quilts are created as original, one-of-a-kind pieces, where the quilting lines become part of the visual language — adding flow, texture, movement, and depth.
A meaningful part of my process is working with fabric mindfully. I rarely discard fabric pieces larger than about an inch and a half, and I often incorporate treasured scraps into new work. I believe even the smallest fragment can become part of something beautiful. This thoughtful reuse allows me to build texture, preserve special fabrics, and create pieces with layered character and story.
I also love exploring the expressive possibilities of thread. In many works, thread is not just functional — it becomes detail, line, and dimension. I often use a mix of quilting techniques and specialty materials, including heavier threads, couched wool, and textured stitching to highlight petals, leaves, water, or movement within the design. These are often the details that reveal themselves most beautifully up close.
My quilts have been featured in Art Quilting Studio magazine, and that recognition has been a meaningful part of my journey as a textile artist. It has been an honor to share my work with a wider audience of quilt and fiber art lovers.
Through Quilts and Beyond, I hope to offer pieces that bring warmth, artistry, and individuality into a home — whether that’s through a striking wall quilt, a thoughtful handmade gift, a decorative table runner, or a pattern that inspires another maker.
Thank you for supporting independent handmade art and small-batch craftsmanship.
With warmth,
Madhura Bhide
