What We Gather – Original Textile Art Quilt

Inspired by a bird building its nest outside my home, What We Gather is a one-of-a-kind textile artwork celebrating the beauty of gathering small things and creating something meaningful from them.

The nest is the focal point, carefully built from layers of fabric scraps. Three delicate white eggs sit inside the nest, creating a beautiful contrast and bringing a sense of new life to the composition.

The background is made from hand-dyed fabric, creating a rich, organic landscape of greens and blues. The variations in colour give the impression of foliage and sky while making the nest stand out naturally.

Extensive machine quilting creates beautiful texture across the entire surface. The quilting follows flowing organic patterns through the background and adds dimension to the nest, branches and surrounding areas. The piece is wonderfully tactile — something that photographs cannot fully capture.

I especially love the composition and movement of this piece: the nest and eggs draw your eye immediately, while the branch extends naturally across the artwork and the surrounding quilted background creates depth and movement.

This is not a traditional quilt made for a bed. It is an original piece of textile art, designed to be displayed and appreciated like a painting.
